Last Week

This year in blogging I have learned to improve my writing skills. It has changed in a good way. This year is a good year to practice writing in. Because I’m in eighth grade and in eighth grade we have the writing FCAT it is wise to practice our writing skills and the blogging competition helped me do that. In the blogging competition I got to write about different issues that I thought were interesting. I also got to interact with people all over the world from their different blogs form the competition.  I have also learned some people’s different cultures from their blogs and I find it really interesting.

In blogging, I get to visit other blogs from different classrooms from different states and different countries. I also got to see their writing skills and abilities and try to improve mine to get to be as well as theirs. I have also noticed how my writing has been going in to more detail than it ever has before. I have noticed that my typing speed has also increased by a lot. Typing practically everyday on my blog for the competition has helped me type faster.

I learned about people all over the world. I visited countries like Portugal, Netherlands, Australia, and USA. Writing with a worldwide audience is important because then they get to learn about you and your culture. I have had 66 people around the world visit my blog.  I have about 10 posts including this one. My best post was probably the 4th of July post because it was a celebration that was really important to me and it showed in my writing. I think that in the future we should run a new blogging competition every 10 weeks. Three different countries have visited my blog.

International Year of the Reef 2008

Posted by devonv140 in Uncategorized  Tagged

The international Year of the Reef is a very important time. Coral reefs are aragonite structures made by living creatures. They are in marine waters with little nutrition. In most reefs the dominant creature are the corals. Deep water coral can exist in greater depths and colder temperatures.  In coral reef there is a dominance of algae in healthy reef.

There are many parts of Coral reefs. The coral reef has a stomach like humans. They also have a mouth like us too. They have tentacles on the top. Other parts of he Coral Reef include a septum, outer epidermis, theca, basal plate, mesoglea, gastrodermis, nematocyst digestive filament, and the coenosarc. Fish that swim in the coral reef are as  the colorful as the reef itself.

Fish like angelfish, butterflyfish, parrotfish, damselfish, and clinidae are all beautiful fish that light up the coral reef. There are also fish that swim above the coral reef. Fish such as groupers, some sharks, horse mackerals, snappers, barracudas, marginatus, and pompanos. There are over 4,000 species of fish that live in the coral reef. Reefs are also a large home for other organisms such as worms, jellyfish, shrimp, cleaner fish, molluscs, sea snakes, dolphins, starfish, and sea squirts. I picked the International Year of the Reef 2008 because I thought it interested me. The coral Reef is not something people see evryday so If a diver gets to swim down there then it is something special.

I got my images from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coral_reef

Recycling

Recycling Video

Most homes have garbage cans and recycling bins for their house. In my family we all recycle. We recycle cans, glass, batteries, and plastics. We also recycle newspapers, paper bags, office paper, school work, and magazines. Recycling is good for our Earth and we use it to make new products out of the products that we finished using already. Recycling also helps manage the modern waste now. In my family recycling is important because we know that it helps the Earth.

Count Three Out

Posted by devonv140 in Uncategorized  Tagged

There are many blogs that I have visited but out of all of them there were three that stuck out the most. These three blogs all relate to me in some way. The first blog I commented on was Edouard’s blog. He likes and read the book Twilight and so do I. The Next blog that I commented on was Michael’s Blog. I found Michael’s blog interesting because he loves soccer. I play soccer everyday and have been playing since I was 3. That is something we had in common. The last blog I commented on was Haley’s Blog. I loved her blog because shew is a fan of Miley Cyrus and I am also. These are the reasons I choose to comment on those blogs.

4th of July

Flag of the United States of America

In the U.S. one of my favorite celebrations is the 4th of July. It is really called Independence Day but is commonly known as the 4th of July. It is a federal holiday celebrating the Declaration of our independence in 1776. It is when we got our independence from Great Britain. All work and schools are closed on this day also.

On the 4th of July you can sometimes find Hot Dog eating contests around the U.S. which is a main tradition in some states. You will also see people wearing or waving the American Flag and see the colors of our flag Red, White, and Blue. During this day there are usually fireworks, parades, picnics, barbecues, carnivals, basebal games, concerts, political speeches and ceremonies, and other public events. Most of all it is a day celebrating our freedom.

A celebration I would like to visit would be the Chinese New Year. It is laso known as the Lunar New Year. It is one of China’s most important traditional holidays. It is celebrated with large populations of ethnic Chinese people. On the Chinese New Year’s Eve they usually are visited by their relatives and have an annual dinner consisting of fish which is a main event of the hoilday. They will also go to their local temple and pray for a good new year. It would be cool if I could ever visit that celebration in China.

Top three Blogs that I like

Posted by devonv140 in Uncategorized  Tagged

My top three favorite blogs are three of my friends’s blogs. Fariha’s, Faizah’s, and Natalia’s blogs are the blogs I like and visit the most. On their blogs I like their avatars that all represent them well. Also, I think their themes represent them well and they have well written posts. I enjoy looking at blogs from other countries but my three favorite blogs would have to be their’s. Check out their blog’s on my blogroll.

Poverty- What schools and student life is like in poorer countries.

Posted by devonv140 in Uncategorized  Tagged

The majority of the world’s nation is living in poverty. Most of us live off just a few dollars a day. The poorest people have less access to health and education. About 27,000-30,000 children die every day around the world. Less than one percent of what the world spent on weapons was needed to put every child into school by the year 2000 and it didn’t even happen. Schools in poorer countries usually have a higher percent of children with free or lower priced lunches. Principals have also said that they find it difficult to hire teachers now for a school in poverty. People can help with poverty by volunteering to do job training with the adults in poverty. If you donate money it can be elpful but it only lasts a while but if you help them get better jobs that would help them for a life time♥

I live in United states in South Florida. I go to Middle School and take the bus to school everyday and come home on the bus to. My school is not that big and we have six classes everyday. We have the normal, classes like Math, Science, and Language Arts but we also have electives like Spanish, and P.E.  In Florida there are amusement parks and cool tourist attractions. If someone were to visit Florida they should go to Disney World our main attraction♥

Why I chose my Avatar

Posted by devonv140 in Uncategorized  Tagged

My avatar is a picture of a soccer ball and it says Soccer Rulez. I chose this avatar because it really does represent who I am and what I love. I am a huge soccer fanatic and I play soccer everyday. Soccer is basically my whole life so it really represents me. I play on a travel soccer team in South Florida. I have been playing soccer since I turned three so it’s been my whole life since I can remember♥

Why I chose my Theme

Posted by devonv140 in Uncategorized  Tagged

♥The reason I chose my theme is because I thought it looked different then the rest of them. My theme looked unique because there is a picture in my theme. I love the different colors in my theme. The picture of the different leaf’s on the sidewalk seems calm and peaceful and it makes me relaxed. The last reason I chose my theme is because it reminded me of New York City and that was one of my favorite vacations

I don’t have a tagline but if I did I would have it say “Warning! Soccer fanatic ahead” because I have a passion for soccer. I have been playing since I was three and I am on a soccer team.
